Extra woof with an added meow

We volunteered to help out a veteran in their time of need.

First the unfortunate death of an Air Force veteran. That veteran had a dog and a cat left behind. The family couldn’t keep them so they looked for someone else who could take them. They tried many rescues but no one could take them in the time frame they had left. The dog, Bear, is 13 years old and the cat, Silas, is 2 years old.

We weren’t sure how this was going to work being that our dogs weren’t used to being around cats.

But it is temporary, there is a veteran family an hour and a half or so away from us that agreed to take them in but had a family emergency at the last-minute and needed someone to hold them until they were able to.

This is where we stepped in.

We drove 3 and a half hours to meet the family of the veteran that had passed to get the pets.  Then due to road construction it ended up being 4 hours back home. James slept on the way back home because he had to be at work in the morning. We got them home and well…my dogs haven’t adjusted well to the cat being here. We have had the cat in our bedroom. We had the room prepped to lay down flooring that weekend, but that didn’t happen.

That’s ok. We will get it done, eventually.

Just didn’t want to see them put down just because no one could take them.

Bear before grooming. I couldn’t leave him like he was. His fur was so matted with dead bugs in his fur.

Bear chilling in the kennel because he is a bit clumsy on his feet and will knock things over.
