Malignant or Benign

I had the ultrasound of my neck done earlier in March. We had to go to Tampa Florida last Thursday for my husband’s grandmothers funeral. We got back on Monday, picked up the dogs at the kennel and then I called the doctor’s office to see if they had gotten the results in from the ultrasound. They then tell me that the doctor wanted to see me and when is the earliest I could come in. It was just after 2pm and they had an opening at 3pm so I took it. Plus, that my husband could go with me just in case.  We did our normal check in routine and then sat there waiting ….almost impatiently not knowing what she was going to say.

They found a 7mm spot in my neck just under my ear and it goes a bit back to the backside of my ear (if you can understand what I am trying to describe). The doctor that read the ultrasound said it is on the lower end of possibilities that it is benign but isn’t ruling it out completely. So my doctor had put in a referral to an ear, nose, and throat specialist for them to look at it further. I know they had mentioned in notes pulling out fluid or whatever is inside it. The notes also say it is deeper than I guess they have seen normal cysts. That is why my doctor has referred me to a specialist.  I haven’t been able to even wear the earrings I love that James bought me several years ago. They are diamond earrings and gold. I am one of those people who can’t wear fake jewelry. I haven’t been able to wear fake jewelry since I was a kid. I would always get a knot under my neck when I did try wearing something.  I have been a yellow gold lover. I won’t wear anything else. Call me picky but I like what I like. I am sure a lot of you can understand that can’t you? Even if it isn’t jewelry we are talking about.

When this knot started appearing on my neck I had to take out my earrings so we thought I was just getting an infection. I had even thought at one point it was a fungal infection because I kept wanting to scratch my ear and it wasn’t scratching it because it was healing.  But after antibiotics and antibiotic ointments the knot in my neck still remained. Then it just sat there like a guest that never wants to leave. One of those that you really didn’t invite over and they seem to think they can make themselves at home, take their shoes off and prop their feet on the coffee table. Then ask for a beer… well this is that knot, cyst or whatever this thing is in my neck. Sucks because every time I go to put my earrings in it aggravates my neck and ear. Then I have to end up taking my earrings out just because it seems to piss it off. That’s one reason we originally thought it was just an infection but it never responded to any of the medications.

We are definitely keeping our fingers [sce emoji=”fingerscrossed”/] crossed (not to mention any other extremity).  We are also saying our [sce emoji=”praying”/] prayers this thing whatever it is, isn’t cancerous. I guess the good thing is that hopefully when all is said and done I can wear my earrings again… even if I have a scar of my neck. At least it will match the rest of my scars [sce emoji=”laugh”/]. I should see an ear, nose, and throat doctor within the next week as long as the paperwork the insurance side of things goes through on time. I am pretty sure most of you know what I am talking about when I say this. I guess no matter what country we live in we all have our issues when it comes to seeing a doctor. I am just thankful we have insurance.  Until next time… just remember to smile, even through the pain.
