Flawless Imperfections

Turned a page in this  never-ending book of life for us. Whether we are in a better position or not remains to be seen. James had been working in a temporary position at the post office. He’d also been steadily submitting applications for whatever position he thought he may have been qualified for.  Several months ago he was offered a term position (it’s kind of like a temporary position but for some there is a better chance of becoming a permanent employee). He weighed his options and decided it would come out more beneficial to accept the term position. He accepted this back in July.  His first day was technically yesterday.  I know he wanted to make sure to not burn any bridges with the postal service because with his foot in the door there he wanted to make sure if needed, he could get his job back at the post office. The downside of that job was his schedule or lack thereof. I guess if you didn’t have a family or wasn’t really the type that enjoyed being at home. He would rather stay home and sample different beers. It’s funny because if I purchase beer for him – I buy it because I like the bottle- 🙂    But then there are plenty of times that I do purchase it based on whether I have seen the bottle before.

Now back to what I was talking about…I know there are plenty of people who would have stayed at the post office. Hell, he had thought he would have too but when they informed him that he wasn’t eligible for benefits (mainly insurance) until after 360 days…well that kind of made the job opportunity a bit different. We have been paying for cobra coverage since April. When you’re paying over $1400.00 a month just to have it and even more to use it, you start looking at certain aspects of a job through a different set of glasses.

Since I am a type 2 diabetic I have regular appointments, tests that need to be done to make sure my diabetes is controlled. At my last appointment my A1C was 6.3, which is technically within pre-diabetic range. I wish I could say I don’t have it anymore but that’s probably not going to happen. Since my bio father had diabetes it is already in my DNA somewhere. I am not sure if it runs anywhere else down the line.  I know it is in control in comparison to what it could be. I only use my glucose monitor when I am symptomatic (per my doctor).  It will fluctuate based on a number of things.

How Stress Affects Diabetes Many sources of stress are long-term threats. For example, it can take many months to recover from surgery. Stress hormones that are designed to deal with short-term danger stay turned on for a long time. As a result, long-term stress can cause long-term high blood glucosethe main sugar found in the blood and the body’s main source of energy. Also called blood sugar.X levels. Many long-term sources of stress are mental. Your mind sometimes reacts to a harmless event as if it were a real threat. Like physical stress, mental stress can be short term: from taking a test to getting stuck in a traffic jam. It can also be long term: from working for a demanding boss to taking care of an aging parent. With mental stress, the body pumps out hormones to no avail. Neither fighting nor fleeing is any help when the “enemy” is your own mind. In people with diabetes, stress can alter blood glucose levels in two ways: People under stress may not take good care of themselves. They may drink more alcohol or exercise less. They may forget, or not have time, to check their glucose levels or plan good meals. Stress hormones may also alter blood glucose levels directly. – See more at: http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/complications/mental-health/stress.html#sthash.KcMwzTvB.dpuf

I sent him a quote from the movie the Notebook, heck we all have flaws, it’s the flawless imperfections I cherish.
